The ceremony of laying the foundation stone

On 22nd April 2015, in the hospital at 4 Mączna street in Szczecin, took place a ceremony of signing the foundation act and laying the foundation stone under the construction of a pregnancy pathology ward in the pavilion of the maternity and gynaecology ward. It is a part of the program: “PL07 Improvement and better adjustment of healthcare to demographic and epidemiological trends”, co-financed by the 2009-2014 EEA Financial Mechanism and Norwegian Financial Mechanism. The hospital is implementing a project: “The development of perinatal care in the Szczecin sub-region – improvement of quality and accessibility of medical services and prevention”.

The foundation stone was laid by the Marshal of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship Olgierd Geblewicz, the Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of Norway Jan Antoni Kubiak, the representative of the Ministry of Health Marcin Marciński, the director of the “Zdroje” hospital Danuta Śliwa, the head of the maternity and gynaecology ward Andrzej Niedzielski, MD, as well as the representative of the building contractor, the Budimex company, Jarosław Sak.

Laying the foundation stone marks the beginning of the so-called “hard” part of the project. The result of its implementation will be the opening of a new pregnancy pathology ward already in April 2016. The ward will meet the highest world standards. It will be a part of the maternity and gynaecology ward and it will contain 16 beds, a pregnancy pathology outpatient clinic and a room for antenatal classes.

The “hard” part of the project encompasses extending the maternity and gynaecology ward pavilion to add the pregnancy pathology ward, restructuring and renovating the adjacent roomsas well as a delivery and installation of technological equipment.

The extension of the pavilion will include enlarging the ground floor in the already existing connector building and adding a new floor above the enlarged part. The result of the realisation of the investment will be the construction of modern rooms and circulation areas with the total usable floor area of around 1 550 m2.

On the first floor of the extended pavilion there will be a pregnancy pathology ward with one- and two-bed rooms, each with its own sanitary unit.

The ward will be able to accommodate 16 patients at the same time.

On the first floor of the pavilion there will also be a pregnancy pathology outpatient clinic with modernly equipped offices, a CTG examination room and a USG room. Additionally, on the ground floor there will be a room for antenatal classes, where 12 expectant mothers and their partners will be able to practise simultaneously.

A ventilation room and a circulation area will be located on the underground floor.

The cost of this part of the project is around 8 million PLN, including:

  • construction works – 5.73 million PLN
